What is Permanent Eyeliner?

Permanent eyeliner is a semi-permanent procedure to give you all the benefits of eyeliner without the hassle of daily application and wear of eyeliner makeup. Similar to a tattoo, the permanent eyeliner pigment is inserted into the epidermis of the skin. Using a pinpoint precision technique, Lana will apply the permanent eyeliner and it will appear perfect in a way that is not possible to achieve with standard eyeliner makeup. Permanent eyeliner will give the illusion of thick, dark and dense eyelashes. The procedure is safe, non-invasive and gentle. Because permanent eyeliner is not as deep as a tattoo, the effect will gradually fade over the course of 1–2 years depending on the client. The pigmented ink used for this procedure is gentle, safe and effective for semi-permanent use.

Depending on the client’s preferences, the effect of permanent eyeliner can be dramatic or subtle. Clients have complete control over the shape, length and color for the eyeliner. The effect can change the appearance of an eye by creating an optical illusion of abundant, luscious lashes. For a softer look, clients can choose the eyeliner to be “smudged.” Clients can choose to have the eyeliner done only on the upper eyelid or on both the upper and lower eyelids. Lana will work personally with clients to determine the best look for them based on the client’s preferences, features, complexion, and eye shape.

The best part about permanent eyeliner is that it allows clients to forget about eyeliner completely! Clients are free to live their lives without worry about their eyeliner smudging, running or rubbing off — even while swimming, sleeping or working out. The effect typically lasts 1–2 years, with some clients experiencing the effects even longer.

The Treatment

The application process of permanent eyeliner is simple, quick and efficient. When you arrive, Lana will personally work with you to confirm the perfect look, considering your preferences, complexion, facial features and eye shape. Lana advises that you do not wear makeup or contacts to this appointment.

After the eyelid area is sterilized and any makeup removed, a numbing gel is applied. The numbing gel takes about 15–20 minutes to take full effect, giving you time to relax before the procedure begins.

Next, Lana will tattoo the eyeliner with pinpoint accuracy for a precision effect. During the process, a second numbing gel that penetrates the skin is applied to ensure your comfort. Once the tattooing process is complete, you will have time to relax while Lana explains aftercare.

Lana will also schedule a perfecting session about 4–6 weeks after the initial treatment. The color will settle during this time and the eyelids will be completely healed. Lana will examine your skin and make any minor adjustments to the shape or color to guarantee you are happy with the look of your eyeliner.

Aftercare

After the initial eyeliner appointment, eyelids can be tender. This is normal for the first few days. During this time, it is important not to scratch or pick at the skin. Lana recommends you wear sunglasses outdoors as much as possible during the healing process, as sunlight can cause the pigment to fade faster.

The pigment will appear much darker in the first 7–30 days. During this time, it will gradually fade to the desired color. Some of the pigment may appear to flake off — such as when toweling the face dry or after sleeping on a pillow — but this just means dry cells and superficial color are shedding. This is completely normal. The pigment will completely settle after 30 days to the desired effect.

Lana will schedule a perfecting appointment 4–6 weeks after the initial appointment. At this visit you can discuss any changes to color, shape or width.

“Lana did my eye liner and what a fantastic job she did. People ask how I did such a perfect line and they can’t believe it when I tell them it’s permanent liner. Lana has been working on my face for six weeks and the results are great. I will be one of her long time customers. I love that she is passionate about her work and never tries to sell you anything you don’t need. Thank you so much for everything, Lana.”

Will permanent eye makeup work for me?

Permanent eyeliner is a wonderful option for most clients, but a few conditions require extra consideration before booking. If any of the below apply to you, please discuss with Lana during a consultation.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Permanent eyeliner is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding. We ask that you wait until after this period before scheduling treatment.

Slow Healing or Infection-Prone Skin

Clients who are prone to slow healing or skin infections are not good candidates for permanent eyeliner. Proper healing is essential for the pigment to settle correctly.

Diabetes (Type 1 or Type 2)

Clients with diabetes should discuss the treatment with Lana prior to application. We will review your history together to determine whether permanent eyeliner is appropriate for you.

Thyroid Disease

Some medications used to treat thyroid disease can cause improper retention of the pigment. Please discuss your condition and current medications with Lana before booking.
